Factors and control methods for the formation of carbon deposits in air compressors

  • 2021-09-18

The main factors of carbon deposit formation are:

1. High temperature: High temperature is a decisive factor for the oxidation and deterioration of lubricating oil. The higher the temperature, the faster the oxidation rate, and the greater the possibility of carbon deposits;

2. Pressure: After the air is compressed by an air compressor, the pressure increases and the oxygen concentration increases, which increases the oxidation rate of the oil and the possibility of formation of carbon deposits;

3. Metal catalysis: Metal has a positive catalytic effect on the oxidation reaction, which will accelerate the progress of the reaction;

4. Type of air compressor oil: The quality and amount of air compressor oil will affect the formation of carbon deposits to varying degrees. If mineral-type air compressor oil is used, the unsaturated components in the base oil are more likely to form carbon deposits. Air compressor explosion accidents are mostly caused by the accumulation of carbon deposits. Carbon deposits are high-temperature products, but they can also ignite spontaneously at high temperatures. Usually the spontaneous combustion temperature of carbon deposits is around 180°C, and the outlet temperature of the air compressor is generally not higher than 160°C, Under the circumstances, carbon deposits will not be ignited.

However, when the air compressor has instantaneous high temperature or high pressure due to some failures, the temperature in the air compressor rises sharply, causing spontaneous combustion of carbon deposits, and the oil in the carbon deposits quickly vaporizes. When the vaporized oil and gas and the high concentration of oxygen in the compressed air and high temperature coexist, it will cause the compressor to explode and cause an accident.

Control of Carbon Deposit in Oil Sludge of Air Compressor

Aiming at the generation mechanism of harmful substances such as carbon deposits in air compressor sludge, the following effective measures can be taken to maintain good working conditions of the air compressor:

1. Choose clean and high-quality air compressor oil, and replace the air compressor oil regularly according to maintenance requirements. According to the operating conditions and conditions, you can choose the air compressor oil with the formula of V and IV synthetic oil, at least you must use the air compressor oil based on the III high refined hydrocarbon oil to avoid the use of insufficient saturation and impurities More I/II mineral oils.

2. Choose high-quality maintenance parts and materials, and replace them regularly according to maintenance requirements. High-quality and efficient use of oil, oil filter, air filter, can effectively filter external and internal pollution sources, to ensure the normal operation of the air compressor.

3. Maintaining normal working temperature and working pressure and ensuring effective ventilation of the air compressor station is a way to get twice the result with half the effort.

4. Adopt auxiliary cleaning method to keep the compressor clean, choose mature online cleaning fluid, and clean the air compressor regularly, which can keep the rotor and oil circuit of the machine head in a clean state, and prevent problems before they happen.
